PETTAVEL RESTAURANT

Kept busy sourcing the freshest local produce and quality ingredients Pettavel Executive Chef Matt Dempsey and the Pettavel kitchen team continually produce modern, innovative and creatively presented taste sensations on a plate.

 

The Pettavel menu changes daily dependent on the freshest seasonal flavours, and consists of three banquet style entrees, a wide selection of main courses and tempting desserts. Pettavel wines are available by the glass and bottle, and we also have a comprehensive wine list featuring both Australian and International wines. The restaurant is open seven days a week for lunch and every Friday night for dinner, served in the same format as our five course lunch. Light meals are available in cellar door to compliment the cellar door wine tasting experience, and provide time constrained visitors an option to sample the Pettavel menu. A cheese menu, dessert from our restaurant menu and coffee are served throughout the day, as of course is our cellar door wine tasting.

 

The banquet style trio of entrees, flavoursome array of main courses, exciting seasonally influenced desserts, comprehensive wine list, relaxed atmosphere and efficient service has satisfied many a guest, and industry peers.

 

Pettavel has been awarded six consecutive chefs hats in the acclaimed Age Good Food Guide, and after three consecutive "Best Restaurant in a Winery" awards from the Victorian Restaurant and Caterers Association, Pettavel was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005.

The Pettavel cooking class schedule for 2008 is now open for bookings. Executive Chef Matt Dempsey, Sous Chef Graham Jefferies and Chef-de-Partie Gabby Ladd will be conducting the classes, which will run from April to June. The Age Good food guide 2008

Pettavel Winery & Restaurant are once again, thrilled to maintain their award winning status as a ‘One Hat’ restaurant, awarded by The Age Good Food Guide. Pettavel are proud to be the recipient of six consecutive ‘One Hat’ ratings since 2003. Pettavel is the only restaurant in Geelong and one of fourteen winners in Country Victoria to receive the ‘One Hat’ award for 2008.

 

A Chef’s Hat awarded by The Age Good Food Guide is one of the most recognised awards in the restaurant industry, and not awarded injudiciously. A team of anonymous, professional reviewers and food writers travel state wide searching for Victoria’s best dining experiences. Pettavel was awarded a ’One Hat’ score of 15/20 for 2008, indicating that the restaurant is “Reliably good: notable in its class”.

The staff at Pettavel are passionate about what they do and endeavor to exceed guests expectations, providing efficient and unobtrusive service and serving distinctly local, vibrant food, to maintain the high standard that Pettavel is recognised for.

 

The 2008 review comments included: “Every day is harvest day at Pettavel and the bubbly, well-trained staff seem genuinely excited that the ‘golden beets have come from the kitchen garden’ (to be roasted and teamed with goat’s cheese and black truffle tortellini) or that home-grown tomatoes might go into a jam to serve with juicy fried quail, zucchini and corn fritters.  With the chefs who built this restaurant’s reputation now gone, successor Matt Dempsey creates a different five-course degustation each day in the produce-determined manner his predecessors cemented.” “Just allow a good three hours as Pettavel encourages slowing down. Pettavel Restaurant Daily Lunch Menu

Seven days a week, the seasonally influenced Pettavel lunch menu offers guests a leisurely dining experience. A trio of entrees are served before a choice of main course, followed by dessert. The five course banquet meal is served at a relaxing pace allowing visitors time to enjoy and appreciate the flavours of both food and wine.

 

Bookings are essential and available between 12.00 and 2.00pm, seven days a week.

Friday night dining is a year round feature at Pettavel, allowing guests to enjoy the Pettavel five course dinner from 6.30pm every Friday night. The Friday night dinner menu follows the renowned Pettavel format of three seasonal entrees, followed by a choice of main course and dessert.

Pettavel Cellar Door Menu

The Pettavel Cellar Door menu, including a tasting plate for two, provides guests the opportunity to complement wine tasting's with a selection of flavours and textures. The cellar door menu also allows time constrained guests the opportunity to experience the complete spectrum of Pettavel flavours. To complement an casual meal, or for afternoon enjoyment desserts and coffee can be ordered throughout the day.

The full range of Pettavel wines are available by the half glass, glass and bottle, and may be tasted in our cellar door prior to being seated in the restaurant. We are proud to announce Pettavel third year Apprentice; Scott Stevenson has been declared one of three winners of the inaugural Thierry Marx Career Development Award for Apprentice Chefs. As a winner Scott will travel to France for a month, working under the guidance and direction of celebrated French chef, Thierry Marx, in his two Michelin star restaurant, Chateau Cordeillan-Bages in Bordeaux.

 The Thierry Marx Career Development Award was open to all apprentice Chefs in Victoria, employed by members of Restaurant and Catering Victoria. The aim of the award is to encourage young apprentices to strive for excellence and enable them to bring back new skills and ideas to their workplace. As one of six finalists, Scott underwent an extensive interview and created two original dishes highlighting local produce. The judges commented that the finalists’ talent, passion and enthusiasm for cooking and their profession impressed them.
Scott says, “I am very excited to work with Thierry Marx in his 2 Michelin star restaurant and to travel overseas for the first time. I would like to thank the Pettavel team and my teachers at the Gordon for their support and the sponsors for making the awards possible”. All of us at Pettavel are thrilled for Scott and congratulate him on his well-deserved win. Pettavel once again, this year are thrilled to win ‘Best Modern Australian - Regional Restaurant’, for the second year running.

In 2005, Pettavel was inducted into the Restaurant and Catering, Victoria, Hall of Fame, after winning ‘Best Restaurant in a Winery’ category for three consecutive years.  In 2006, Pettavel was awarded ‘Best Modern Australian Regional Restaurant’ and were finalists in the ‘Professional Development’ category.

Garden fresh herbs and vegetables

If you have been to Pettavel recently you may have noticed more than a hint of green outside the Terrace. We can thank our new gardener Claudio for all his hard work in getting the garden to its current glory. We also believe our diners will be pleased as they sample our garden fresh produce, such as spring onions, mignonette lettuce and spinach.

 

 

 

PETTAVEL INDUCTED INTO THE TELSTRA COUNTRY WIDE GOLDEN PLATE AWARDS “HALL OF FAME”

At the recent 2007 Telstra Country Wide Golden Plate Awards, Pettavel Winery & Restaurant was inducted into the Hall of Fame, after taking home the overall Golden Plate Award in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

The Telstra Country Wide Golden Plate Awards are designed to recognise excellence within the hospitality industry in the Geelong region. The judging process, lead by The Herald Sun, food critic Stephen Downes, considers food quality and presentation, wine lists, customer service, ambience and overall value for money. 

Over the past three years the judges have honoured Pettavel with the highest praise. “Yet again this restaurant shines with all the components that make it a truly great venue; exceptionally attentive and knowledgeable service; a kitchen that delivers technically brilliant and innovative fare and a wine list that perfectly complements the menu”.
